| I never thought that I would find an art medium that I would enjoy more than my graphite pencil. Then, I stepped out of my black and white world, and discovered color. This started with colored pencils, since I guessed that they would be the easiest to work with. Soon, I discovered that, although I loved working with them, easy is not necessarily a proper term of description. Oil paints came next, and I might have been compared to a kid with a new toy. Oil paints are very forgiving, mistakes are easily corrected or simply transformed into something different. The colors can be mixed on the palette or on the canvas. Oh, and the brushes....well, most women have a shoe-fetish, but personally, I'm obsessed with paintbrushes. I've now completed my Master's Degree, and started taking on more freelance projects. However, more and more frequently, I can now be found at my easel. There is a certain thrill related to a blank canvas. The fact still amazes me when I first approach the easel, there, before me, a blank canvas, a variety of paints and my brushes. Many hours later, with the use of these tools, I create a work of art. Often, I plan the outcome of my painting based on a photograph that I have taken. Other times, I simply sit before the canvas, and begin painting, uncertain, but happy, until it is complete. |
